Bobby never asked to be beaten by a man he can only refer to as "John" and wishes that particular memory never happened. His adoptive parents see a child they wished they could hold forever that can't understand his own anger. Adopted at 5 years old in 2001, Bobby's adopted mother, Brenda saw a beautiful child that she could save. Her faith and her courage wouldn't allow this child to be yet another number in a system. She wouldn't allow an innocent child to huddle in a cold corner after being ruthlessly beaten by a man who he barely knew.
She knew that this child didn't deserve the life he was living that we only have nightmares about. Bobby's life was saved in 2001 through the adoption process and today, needs our help to flourish and above all, be a child again. We can help him lift himself above the sexual and physical abuse that claimed the last vestige of safety the rest of us enjoyed as children.
His life, his voice and his future can still be something all of us can be proud of. Bobby's life, while heartbreaking doesn't have to continue as it started. Today, we as a community can prove to him that the life he was given wasn't his fault. We as a community can acknowledge together his pain but reward his growth and positive change. We as a community can come together and allow him to enjoy the happiness he wished for as a child. Today, we can celebrate the new life that his adoptive parents have given him but are struggling to understand.
Bobby's mother, Brenda realizes that Bobby isn't a happy child. While other children play, smile and enjoy each other, Bobby struggles to maintain friendships because he suffers from Reactive Attachment Disorder. Bobby has a low IQ which only amplifies his isolation to his peers. His adopted brothers don't suffer with the same attachment issues as Bobby, which only adds to his frustration and isolation.
It's our duty as a community to help this child smile and enjoy the outdoors. Bobby's mother wants to see her child smiling and playing in the outdoors. She wants to see him in the outdoors being the child that she knows and sees deep down, past the pain of his past.
Bobby loves the outdoors. He loves camping, fishing and hiking. He loves the freedom that he dreamed of while his life was being destroyed by the very birth parents that should have protected him. Let us come together and reach our hands and our hearts out to a child that is worth more than he thinks he is. Let us carry his burden together and bring peace to a child's tormented past and his bright future.
Bobby's story is still be being written, and together we can add our own words of hope, peace and love to the story.
